keratinocytes

The skin is the largest organ in the body and serves as a barrier against external factors. Its functions include protection from pathogens, thermal regulation, sensation, and wound healing. Different cell types in the skin's layers work together to achieve this diversity of function. The epidermis is the outermost layer and helps maintain stability against external stressors. Keratinocytes are routinely used for skin toxicity studies. However, large-scale cultures of primary keratinocytes demanded by high throughput approaches face obstacles such as a limited lifetime and in vitro differentiation, often compromising reproducibility due to inhomogeneous cultures.

To increase your throughput, we offer standardized, ready-to-use upcyte® Human Epidermal Keratinocytes isolated from juvenile donor material.

The morphology of upcyte® keratinocytes is similar to the morphology of primary keratinocytes. upcyte® keratinocytes are analyzed by fluorescence microscopy for the expression of the cytokeratins 5/14 (red, middle panel), 1/10 (red, right panel) and counter-stained against DAPI (blue). They are characterized by high expression of the basal marker CK5/14 while lacking expression of the suprabasal markers CK1/10.

Our Product:

Cat#   Description   Cond.
CKE002     upcyte® Keratinocytes-expanded primary cells

2millioncells/vial

We have developed a media for the expansion, culture, and endpoint measurement of the upcyte® cells:

upcyte® cells are available in sufficient quantities with a consistent quality that can be used for research, screening and drug development. We can expand up to 2000+ vials per cell type and donor – data from different studies can now be compared while working with the same donor. upcyte® cells have a distinct advantage over commonly used cells with respect to the virtually unlimited availability of differentiated cells.
